Traditional Antiphon
O Lord of Ancient Israel, Come

Romans 1:2-3   …promised by God beforehand through the prophets in the holy scriptures, the gospel concerning the Child of God, descended from David according to the flesh.

Prayerful Reflection

O Lord of Ancient Israel, come~
You came to your people long ago.

You appeared to Moses in the burning bush,
as a guiding cloud across the desert.
The prophets announced your coming
from the line of David,
and you fulfilled their hopes.
When we become hopeless or down-hearted,
may we look back in our own lives,
and remember the times you made yourself known to us.
Help us to draw strength from the past when our future looks bleak,
and to trust your promise to love us always.

From Hymn: “O Come, O Come, Emmanual”

O come, O come, our Lord of might,
Who to your tribes on Sinai’s height
In ancient times gave holy law,
In cloud and majesty and awe.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to you, O Israel!
